This 6-5/8" medium hive box is finger jointed and Select grade. Medium boxes are often used for honey supers but are also use by some beekeepers as brood chambers. These supers are cut from Radiata pine, which is significantly stronger than the pines most manufacturers use, such as Ponderosa and Eastern White Pine. These boxes are jointed here in the Pacific Northwest, and we assemble them at our own local woodshop. Like all pines, it is important to paint the box with an exterior latex or treat it with on oil annually. Tung oil is a good choice.
