These frames are glued at the joints and double stapled to make them extra strong. In our experience, bees prefer a wood frame. Some beekeepers believe that bees should build their comb without the imposition of a man-made embossed foundation. This way, the bees can determine their own cell size and comb shape.
Our foundationless frames have a starter strip under the topbar that has a generous coating of Oregon beeswax. This guides the bees to start their comb along the strip and, with any luck, build a comb straight down from this strip.
